Can plant-based hair colours also be used during pregnancy?

Plant-based hair colours are free from harmful chemical ingredients and are particularly gentle. Hair colouring with plant hair dyes is safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. There are no known risks or side effects.

Recognising products with silicone ingredients

You can recognise silicone in a product ingredient list under terms ending in ‘-cone’ (e.g. ‘cyclomethicone’ or ‘dimethicone’). If this is the case, we advise you to switch your hair care to silicone-free products.

If you want to be absolutely sure that you are using purely natural care and styling products, it is best to buy certified natural cosmetics. The labels on the packaging are easy to recognise. Look out for the BDIH, Natrue or Ecocert labels, to name just a few.

Tip if the hair does not accept the colouring

If this is the case, it is advisable to wait before re-colouring with plant-based hair dyes.

The rule of thumb is that around 30 washes are required to remove silicone and paraben residues from the hair. Only then is re-colouring recommended.

What happens if the hair does not accept the colouring?

In healthy hair with an intact, smooth surface, the colour pigments may not take hold. In this case, it is advisable to pre-treat the hair with LOGONA PHF Mineral Earth Pre-Treatment.

You may also have used film-forming products such as hair setting products, hair spray or products containing silicone before colouring. This forms a smooth layer on the hair, which makes it more difficult for the colour pigments to adhere to the hair.

What can you do if the colouring result does not meet your expectations?

To avoid incorrect colouring, we always recommend colouring a test strand beforehand.

If the final colour result still turns out differently than desired, the hair can be re-coloured with the same or a darker shade at the earliest 12 hours after colouring. Lightening is not possible with the purely natural colours.

How long do the plant hair colours last?

If you do not use a packet of powdered plant hair colour immediately, you can continue to use it for another 6 months. You should not keep any leftovers of a mixed mixture.

An opened tube of Colour Creme should be used within 3 months of first opening.

How can hair dyed with plant hair colour be cared for?

A conditioner or hair treatment can be used to improve combability.

Important: Only use certified natural cosmetics to care for your hair. Conventional care products impair the colour result and the natural structure of the hair. In addition, re-colouring with plant-based hair dyes is only possible if there are no silicone or paraben residues in the hair, otherwise the plant-based hair dye will not adhere.

Does the colour intensity increase with more frequent dyeing?

The colour intensity of the plant dyeing can be increased by dyeing several times at shorter intervals.

As plant dyes are subsequently stabilised by the effect of oxygen, there should be at least 12 hours between two dyes.

How long does colouring with plant-based hair dyes last?

Plant-based hair colours provide long-lasting colour depending on your personal care habits and the nature of your hair.

They are not washable tints, but the colour may lose some of its intensity after a few washes.

After the application time, rinse your hair with lukewarm water until all residues of the plant hair colour have been washed out and the water remains clear.

Vegetable hair colours can be easily rinsed out with just water.

If possible, avoid washing your hair with shampoo and/or styling products for the next 24 hours so that the colour is better fixed in the hair.

You can wash your hair with shampoo the next day without any problems.

An oil treatment also helps the colour to last longer.

Massage a small amount of hair oil into your hair and scalp the day after colouring and leave it on for at least an hour. Then wash your hair as usual with shampoo.

Please note that the colour may darken slightly.

If you are not satisfied with the colour result, choose a longer/shorter application time for the next application or mix the plant hair dyes together. There are no limits to your imagination.

How do you colour highlights?

To dye highlights, simply section off individual strands of hair, coat them evenly with vegetable hair dye and wrap them in aluminium foil or cling film.

The application time corresponds to the usual duration of a complete colouring process. Then wash out carefully. We recommend the LOGONA PHF after-treatment Colour Fix.

How long does LOGONA Plant Hair Colour need to work in?

As already described, the application time of your plant hair colour depends on your individual wishes and your hair structure.

Leave the „mash“ on for between 30 minutes (for light colouring or for very damaged hair) and 2 hours.

How can you avoid skin discolouration at the hairline?

To avoid skin discolouration at the hairline, apply an oily cream around the hairline and place a cotton wool strip around it.

Any skin discolouration that does occur will disappear by itself after a short time. However, they can also be removed with a mixture of lemon juice and vegetable oil.

It is very likely that your hair will turn darker in the lengths after several colourings than at the roots, as there are still a few layers of colour on top of each other. To avoid this, root colouring is recommended. This means that you only apply your plant hair colour to the roots without colouring the lengths.

You make the preparations in the same way as if you were colouring your entire hair. Here too, the application time depends on your individual colour preferences and the structure of your hair.

Now divide your hair into different sections, which you pin away with hair clips or clamps.

If you have an old application bottle at your disposal, you can mix the vegetable hair colour a little thinner and pour it into the bottle.

You may need to enlarge the spout of the bottle slightly so that the „slurry“ can be squeezed out of the bottle easily.

Preparations before colouring

To optimally prepare the hair for plant hair colouring, we recommend a hair scrub with lava clay or LOGONA’s colouring pre-treatment.

Both options remove care and styling residues, dandruff particles and excess oil from the hair, making it much easier for the plant hair colour to adhere to the hair.

First step

The first step is to colour your hair as described with a natural red henna.

Again, the application time depends on your individual hair structure, especially whether you have fine or thick hair.

Second step

It is advisable to wait at least 12 hours after the first colouring before starting the second colouring.

You can dye the now pre-coloured grey hair with the darker tones in the 2nd step to achieve an even result.

Instructions for a 2-step colouring process for greying hair

The plant hair dye henna has the property of bonding very easily with the individual hair, whereas the dye indigo has less adhesive power, especially on grey hair. This means that the indigo components of the hair colour mixtures may wash out more quickly than the red components of the mixture. Grey hair can then fade very quickly, while the surrounding hair is even darker and undesirable contrasts can occur.

Second tip for 2-step colouring

To minimise the effect of unwanted contrasts, it is therefore advisable to dye in 2 steps, especially if you have chosen a very dark shade.

This allows the indigo content in your colour mixture to bond better with the hair and you will achieve better durability, even on greying hair.

How do you achieve the desired colour result?

As the plant hair dyes are applied to each individual hair like a coloured glaze, the lighter (or greyer) the hair, the lighter the result. It is therefore sometimes necessary to dye several times to achieve the desired, opaque colour result.

Are plant-based hair dyes also suitable for grey hair?

In principle, plant-based hair dyes are suitable for colouring grey hair, but they cannot be magically removed with purely natural dyes. Due to their special nature, grey hair is lighter than non-grey hair even after plant dyeing.

However, depending on the amount of grey, very naturally nuanced shades of colour are created in the hair.

Colouring a test strand

When colouring for the first time, it is always advisable to colour a test strand first. To do this, simply mix about a teaspoon of the colour powder with approx. 30 ml of boiling water or tea. Now apply this mixture evenly to the sample strand.

Depending on the hair structure, we recommend an application time of between 30 minutes and 2 hours. Then rinse with lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Done!

How do you choose the right colour shade?

As the colouring result with plant hair dyes can vary depending on the hair type, it is best to ask the hairdresser to determine the natural colour tone and hair thickness.

The finer or lighter the hair, the faster and more intensively the plant hair colour will be deposited on the hair.

What should I bear in mind with permed hair?

It is generally advisable to dye the hair only after the perm, as this allows the plant dye to develop its full colour effect and at the same time cares for the hair structure damaged by the perm.

Do NOT use the plant hair colours after applying an acidic perm.

Can you mix plant-based hair colours with each other?

Generally speaking, the plant hair colours can be mixed with each other. All imaginable colour nuances are possible, especially in the red and brown tones. The colour black can be used to darken nut brown, chestnut, chestnut brown and mahogany.

Mixtures of blonde, golden blonde and reddish blonde can also be used to achieve wonderful nuances.

Plant hair colour on chemically dyed hair?

In principle, you can also use the plant hair colours on chemically dyed hair.

Please be sure to dye a test strand beforehand to determine the colouring result and to avoid incorrect colouring that could occur on chemically dyed hair.
